Microsoft has improved the design of the Surface Duo 2 with new displays. While the overall design idea of the Surface Duo remains the same on the new model, Microsoft has made a few key changes that should make using the Surface Duo 2 a lot more enjoyable.

  • 4G and 5G connectivity
  • NFC
  • Wi-Fi 6 connectivity

For starters, the Surface Duo’s two screens have grown in size, now measuring 5.8 inches instead of 5.6 inches. The new configuration offers an immersive 8.3-inch display when used together. Microsoft has pushed the panels closer together, adding curved edges in the process, and a higher 90Hz refresh rate is offered as standard, meaning the user experience should be more fluid than previously. The resulting screen layout is quite similar to what modern foldable smartphones like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 offer, but without the drawbacks of foldable displays in terms of long-term durability. Novel functionality is also enabled by the curved edges. While charging, the sides of the Surface Duo 2 can display alerts, the clock, and battery status.

The camera system was one of the most common complaints about the original Surface Duo. With the second-generation device, Microsoft has addressed this issue by including a new advanced triple-camera configuration. A 12-megapixel main camera comes included with optical image stabilization. A 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera are also included. For greater background blur, there’s also a Time-of-Flight sensor, and Microsoft has created a specific camera software for the dual-screen device. On the right, you’ll see the viewfinder, and on the left, you’ll see the most recent shot. Because Qualcomm’s most recent CPU is there, 5G networks are also supported.

Microsoft claims that the Surface Duo 2 is the thinnest 5G gadget on the market, although the presence of a large battery. The original Surface Duo only had a 3,577 M A H battery, however this updated model has a significantly larger 4,449 M A H battery. The wireless charging is now supported as well. There’s also NFC for contactless payments, a fingerprint scanner on the left side, and support for the Surface Slim Pen 2, which recharges wirelessly on the back of the Duo 2.
